October 2005 : InterContinental Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus

The Hotel

Another great Mediterranean find! The IC Aphrodite Hills Resort was opened as recently as March 2005 and is situated in the vicinity of Kouklia, which is itself a fairly short drive from Paphos, at the western extremity of Cyprus. The location is relatively isolated, which is fine as long as you are not expecting to have a stroll into Paphos - it's miles away! The hotel is especially attractive for sporty types and lovers of a good pampering, being immediately adjacent to a golf course, a tennis club and a very up-market Health Spa facility. The hotel itself is low-rise, with something of a 'village' feel to it, as the rooms are in a cluster of separate buildings. The standard of the accommodation was outstanding and everything was absolutely spotless. The in-house restaurants were quite superb and although the prices reflected this, I didn't mind in view of the consistently high standards. I also found the staff, who were drawn from all over Europe, to be among the friendliest I have encountered. Status recognition was outstanding : although this was a redemption stay, I received the full Royal Ambassador package, including Club access. A chilled bottle of Champagne awaited me on arrival and mineral water, fresh fruit, fresh flowers and of course the mini-bar were topped up as required. In short, I can't wait to go back

The Club Lounge

The Club Lounge is in a separate building at the far end of the complex, with the Club Rooms beyond that again, ensuring privacy. The Lounge, while smaller than its counterpart in Malta, is still on the spacious side. The usual very welcome benefits were provided : breakfast, afternoon tea, happy hour drinks and pre-dinner canapés, plus free Internet access. Best of all, the staff allocated to the Club Lounge were exceptionally professional, helpful and friendly.

Room 4202

Club Suite 4202 was wonderfully well appointed, spacious, tastefully decorated and comfortable. The pictures tell the story well enough, but special mention must be made of the huge bathroom and full-length outside balcony, complete with its own private Jacuzzi

Village Square

The nearby village is still under development, but is gradually taking shape.
