Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

This is: The Portuguese Connection (2012)

And it's a crawl across the finishing line ...

ABOVE: Day breaks over Copenhagen Kastrup
Having hopefully recovered from the very long day that a westbound day flight inevitably entails, we had little trouble responding to my iPhone when it went off in alarm-clock mode. Just as well we weren't depending on hotel's wake-up call, which came through exactly one hour late! We had breakfast in the convenient Executive Lounge; it was a typical Scandinavian buffet that I had enjoyed on a couple of previous occasions.

When the time came we crossed the street, checked in and found the lounge used by BA. Our flight was showing as on-time; it all seemed to be going swimmingly at this stage.

Well that all took somewhat longer than expected, thanks to Heathrow's propensity to descend into chaos at the slightest hint of suboptimal weather (which, funnily enough, is not particularly uncommon in the UK). Bruce and I once more said our temporary goodbyes at the point where the Arrivals and Flight Transfers signs diverged, and I pressed on through Security to Terminal 5's Galleries First lounge, home of the BA gold card holder. I had some lunch from the buffet and was pleased, if a little sceptical, to see that my connection to Edinburgh was still showing as on-time.

In due course, the planned departure time slipped, and slipped again.

Given the various delays, arrival into my home airport within an hour of the scheduled time - just! - seemed not too bad. I collected my luggage, picked up my car and drove home to reflect on the kaleidoscopic memories of another fabulous trip.
