Hotel 4

InterContinental, Sao Paulo

An excellent hotel in one of the ritziest neighbourhoods, just a block from Avenida Paulista and a few minutes' walk from MASP (Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo). Despite this being an award stay, my Royal Ambassador status secured an upgrade to a so-called Junior Suite, which in the event turned out to be a full-blown suite with separate living and sleeping quarters. Room service was excellent, but the minibar selection certainly wasn't the best I've seen. (Nor, I should add, was it the worst.)

The main negative point relates to the Club Lounge, a simple open-plan area on the 17th floor that is confined to weekday operation. Also, the limited pool area is unlikely to be to everyone's taste. On both counts, it seems clear that the hotel caters mainly to business clientele, rather than leisure travellers.

Overall, though, this was a highly enjoyable stay!
