This is: Round Ireland (2016-20)
Yet again, my latest trip to Ireland ended on a bit of a sour note, thanks to that inconsiderate wedding crowd. The period 2-4am was the worst. Twice during that time, I thought (in my half-asleep state) that I could hear intervention by hotel staff. It was ineffective the first time, but completely successful at the second attempt. At least the night ended with some decent sleep.
There was absolutely no rush today - just as well, in view of the above. I got up deeply aware of having endured a disturbed night, yet thankfully not feeling like some kind of zombie.
Before leaving the area, I made a short morning visit to the centre of Donegal Town, but besides the small castle, there wasn't actually that much to see.
I didn't see the flood warning until I was about to leave! |
And that's where we must once again break off from the latest part of my Round Ireland adventure, because my sole remaining tasks on this day were to make a direct run to Ireland West airport (near Knock) and then return to Edinburgh on Flybe. This week of travelling northwards up Ireland's west coast had reinforced an impression that was already well formed by the end of Part 1 of my voyage: the natural features of Ireland's Atlantic coast are stunning, the towns and cities less so.
Part 3, the final instalment covering Donegal to Dublin via Northern Ireland, will hopefully follow sometime during 2020.
