Dodging the rain

Tuesday dawned with heavy rain, just as forecast.   We popped out for breakfast at Starbucks, but due to the weather, I was in no great hurry to get going for wider explorations. I eventually made a move shortly after 11am and walked to Chinatown, via Union Station, Front Street and Spadina Avenue. Once I reached the target area, the first thing that I realised was that it wasn't exclusively Chinese: Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean cuisine (at least) were also very much in evidence.

Next, I walked eastwards towards the University campus. I visited this in 2011, but had forgotten how attractive and interesting it was, even in the rain. Amid signs that it might be starting to brighten up, I moved on towards Queen's Park and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. I managed to find some (fairly late) lunch near the top end of University Avenue and then returned to base on the subway.

Later, we both returned to Chinatown using the streetcar, and enjoyed a Chinese 'meat feast' dinner featuring roast duck, roast pork with crispy skin and barbecued pork, accompanied by noodles and greens. We walked back to the hotel via the new City Hall and Old City Hall.
