May 2016: Lüneburg

The town of Lüneburg lies 56km southeast of Hamburg. Like the other two places visited on this Northern Germany trip, it was once a member of the Hanseatic League. The town only came to my attention in April 2015, when it featured on news reports of what was likely to be the last trial for Nazi war crimes. While fully aware of the seriousness of the subject matter being covered, I couldn't help noticing how beautiful the location looked on TV, and I took a mental note to add it to my ever-growing list of desirable destinations.
