Dawlish is a pleasant small town in Devon, just twelve miles along the coast from Exeter. It has what is reckoned to be one of the most attractive stretches of railway in England, with the main line to Plymouth and beyond running directly next to the sea. This came to national attention in early 2014, when severe storm damage closed the vital route for several weeks. After waiting patiently on a footbridge for more than twenty minutes, I managed to get a classic Dawlish train picture for myself - shame it wasn't a GWR train, but I wasn't prepared to hang around any longer in early March!
