Today was spa day, a result of the fact that our room rate included a 'couple massage'. We thought this might be a bit weird, given that we're not a couple, so had asked the previous day if these could be done as separate sessions and the staff had been happy to accommodate our request. We also discovered that it wouldn't just be a massage, as for each of us, this would form the second half of a two-hour treatment programme.

Bruce had set his alarm for the wacky time of 8:08, explaining - if that's the right word - that this was the telephone area code for the city of his birth, Honolulu. We decided to spend the entire day at the 'spa end' of the resort and set off at 1045 to arrive for 1100, the time of my own appointment. My first hour in the spa was taken up with a succession of short treatments, including such delights as a cold bath, a 'foot pounding' and a 'Shanghai scrub'. Trust me, it was all infinitely more enjoyable than perhaps it sounds. I was clad in a sarong throughout. My aromatherapy massage was then carried out by a Balinese masseur, and was superbly well executed, leaving me feeling an unusual combination of sensations that encompassed both 'relaxed' and 'invigorated' at the same time.
All too soon, it was time to be delivered back to the real world - or at least, Pangkor Laut. I knew that the resort's spa had been given some rave reviews in the usual websites, and now I understood for myself why this was the case. I met up with Bruce in time for a salad lunch that seemed particularly healthy, until we got to the bit where we jointly made use of a buy-3-get-4 offer on Asahi beer. Oops!
I spent the rest of the afternoon simply relaxing and Bruce went off for his spa treatment at 3pm.
We had our DIY balcony cocktails at 5:30 this evening, to tie in with an earlier dinner reservation (7:30) at Uncle Lim's Chinese restaurant. This proved to be a much nicer dining experience than the previous evening, despite one idiot who rolled up shirtless and was nevertheless allowed in.
