This is: Singapore & Malaysia 2017
We were up and about by 9am and had breakfast in the usual Feast Village venue. A little later, we took the hotel shuttle van on a spectacularly hilly and narrow road to the other side of the island and Emerald Bay. (It seemed like an appropriate destination given the level of status in the One World Alliance that both of us enjoyed. )
Most of the day there was spent lounging, walking and talking. I even waded into the ocean at one point - what a daredevil!
RIGHT: Getting settled in for a nice, lazy day |
The tide was constantly coming in during our stay, and sadly, it was depositing an insane amount of trash on the beach. The quantity of plastic bottles was especially striking. Hotel staff were kept busy clearing both natural and man-made debris from the shoreline, and the sheer extent of the latter was both shocking and revolting to behold.
When the time came, we had lunch at Chapman's Bar, where we were attended to by a very friendly Bangladeshi waiter called Ramjan. More unashamed relaxation followed in the afternoon, until the point was reached where the incoming tide posed an imminent threat to our spot on the beach. We took another shuttle over the ridge to the nearest point to our villa, this being the only permitted method of travelling on the steep, narrow and twisting road.
At the appropriate time, we had the usual DIY sundowner on our balcony, followed by a second barely satisfactory evening meal at Feast Village. We both agreed that there was something about this venue that just didn't work very well in the evening.
Overall, though, it had been another excellent day with a particularly enjoyable spell at Emerald Bay.
