Flight Log 6: MH2591

Miri (MYY) - Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

LEFT: Late arrival of the aircraft into Kiri
RIGHT: Business Class seats 1A and 1C

This was the third in a series of four short flights with Malaysia Airlines on the Boeing 737-800. Although today's aircraft seemed a little older than the others encountered so far, it too had the Dreamliner style of overhead fittings. Unlike previous sectors, drinks were served and cold towels were distributed in Business Class while boarding was still in progress. This made sense as the flight was very late and taxiing was minimal at this airport. In another difference from previous practice, I was given a set of small earphones on boarding this flight, which were later replaced with proper headphones for passengers in the front cabin. Orders for lunch were also taken prior to departure.

We left our stand an hour later than scheduled and, in a reversal of other observed operations at the airport, made for Runway 20. I could only assume that wind direction was insignificant. By 1233 we were finally on our way to Kuala Lumpur, with an estimated flying time of 1hr 55mins. A separate, pre-lunch offer of (soft) drinks was made on this slightly longer sector, and I had another apple juice. I started up the 2013 movie Diana, unsure if there would be time to finish it. Annoyingly, it was marked as 'edited for content'.

LEFT: Farewell to Sarawak
RIGHT: In-flight meal

Lunch service started at the rear of the cabin, suggesting that an American Airlines-style 'FEBO' system might be in use. I had a fairly substantial meal of a seafood starter, fried chicken with noodles and (strangely) Western vegetables, and perhaps the most visually alarming, artificially-coloured dessert I had ever seen. I drank water and apple juice throughout. When the meal was cleared, and in a similar manner to the preceding flight, I was given a couple of packets of peanuts to continue snacking on - perhaps I still had a hungry look about me!

Some turbulence marred the final approach into Kuala Lumpur, but we touched down safely at 1421 and were on-stand within ten minutes of landing.
