InterContinental Festival City, Dubai

When I visited Dubai for the first time in 2006, I stayed in the original InterContinental, one of the first international hotels in the city. This property changed hands shortly after my visit, leaving the InterContinental Hotels group. The IC Festival City is its brand new replacement and, at the time of my visit, it had only recently been fully opened. This is another very impressive hotel, next door to the Festival City shopping complex and adjacent to the sister Crowne Plaza hotel. Once again I was upgraded to a spacious and luxurious suite, with good welcome amenities and full RA privileges (see minibar photo ). I mention all this because - you've guessed it! - this was yet another Priority Club award stay, paid for with points.

While I wished I had longer to enjoy this hotel properly, I wasn't sorry that I'd based myself at the Hilton Jumeirah just over a week previously. I was happy that my two visits to Dubai on this trip offered me the chance to sample two such excellent hotels.

As an 'and finally ...' item, the bath had the strangest filling mechanism that I've ever come across. Look closely at the picture. No, your eyes are not deceiving you - the tap really is in the ceiling!
