This is: Spring Fever 2008
Glasgow (GLA) - London Gatwick (LGW)
After the ghost-town appearance of the airport, I'd been expecting a light load of passengers on the flight. It came as quite a surprise, therefore, when a couple turned up in 1B/C. Indeed, it turned out to be a very full flight in what is, admittedly, a small aircraft. The cabin temperature was way too high and I hoped that, unlike a recent BA experience in the Middle East, this would be down to a faulty APU. The prompt start to the boarding process paid off : doors were closed at 1928 and we pushed back five minutes later. The Captain explained that the expected flight time was 1hr 15mins, at an altitude of 35,000ft. As we taxied out to Runway 23, the cabin temperature improved. We took off at 1943.
Twilight came fairly quickly as we headed first west and then south over the Inverclyde district. I'd been expecting a sandwich, but it seems that Gatwick evening domestics are now down to a beverage-only service at weekends. Not that it mattered much - I'd made full use of my lounge visit! I had a G&T and an accompanying bag of mini-pretzels. At least they were carrying ice again
We were given a shortcut into LGW by Air Traffic Control and touched down in an easterly direction at 2039, taking a further four minutes to arrive on-stand at the domestic gates.
