This is: Spring Fever 2008
All good things must come to an end, allegedly, and there was no mistaking the fact that a most enjoyable week in the Caribbean and, for me, the whole Spring Fever mega-trip, were rapidly drawing to a close. I still had my pesky cold, but tried not to let it get me down too much. I certainly felt better than the previous couple of days. After breakfast in the lounge as usual, I headed out for a short walk on the beach before it got too hot to enjoy it properly; now it was Bruce's turn for some lounging around in the room! My walk completed, there was nothing else for it but to attend to the packing. The hotel had given us a 1pm late check-out and the plan was to then spend a further hour in the lounge before transferring to the airport.
We caught our taxi at two o'clock and asked for the air conditioning to be switched on - somebody had told us that you need to ask for it here and to be prepared to pay a little extra to cover the additional fuel consumption. The whole Jet Centre experience was a bit odd at first, but it was an absolute haven of civilised calm compared to my previous appalling experience of departing BGI in 2004! The little lounge was comfortable - all the more so knowing that there were going to be a maximum of 14 occupants! - and, apart from anything else, offered good views of all the comings and goings on the airport apron.
About half an hour or so before the scheduled departure time, we were taken downstairs for our airside minibus transfer direct to the aircraft steps.
