After sampling a day flight from the eastern USA to the UK for the first time the previous year, I had become a firm fan, despite the need to spend a night at Heathrow before completing the journey. I therefore found myself rising at 0530 to make sure that there would be no slip-ups on the way to the airport. In fact it all went very smoothly and I made it to the BA F lounge by about 7am. Still, better that than a display of brinksmanship, in my opinion!

The luggage started to appear relatively quickly, although it then took some considerable time for my own bags to turn up. I caught the Heathrow Express to Terminals 1/2/3 and transferred to a Hotel Hoppa for the short, and now even more extortionately priced, ride to the Crowne Plaza. Once checked-in, I ended this short day with a relaxing bath in my room.
