This is: Round The World 2006-07
Bearing in mind the time of Bruce's flight back to Southern California, we agreed to meet for breakfast at 0830 and the ideal location proved to be the hotel's own branch of Starbucks - this being, of course, Starbucks City. After a good discussion over breakfast of possible travel plans for 2007, it was time to say our farewells for the time being and for me to do some more sight-seeing. As it had been just over 15 years since my last visit to Seattle, I decided that there would be no harm at all in re-doing the city's two most popular tourist pastimes : a visit to the Space Needle and the quirky Underground Tour. The latter is not dissimilar to Edinburgh's various Ghost Tours and, in a thoroughly humorous way, explores some of the original city that was abandoned when the streets were rebuilt one storey higher than originally. It's certainly a good laugh, if you don't mind lots of dodgy humour, and is not necessarily recommended for any sensitive souls from either Tacoma or California, both places taking more than their fair share at being the butt of the jokes.
After that, I strolled back to the Westin, stopping for lunch at yet another coffee shop on the way. I checked out at about 3:30 in the afternoon and crossed the road to the Avis depot, where I was to pick up my next rental car. (These trips aren't just thrown together, you know! ) Once installed behind the wheel of my Ford Taurus, I had no difficulty at all finding my way onto the I-5 and indeed, finding my way to my next hotel without a hitch. This was located literally next door to the Boeing Factory tour centre and would therefore make for an ideal start the next day - see what I mean about forethought and planning?
