Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

This is: Portugal - California 2004

Filling in more gaps & Socialising

Today took on a somewhat different format from previously, as I had arranged to meet more fellow FTers for both lunch and dinner. During the rest of the time, it was a case of filling in more of the gaps in my coverage of the city - nothing too adventurous. It was cooler than of late, thanks to a strong wind blowing in from the Pacific. The threatened cloud cover never really materialised to any great extent, so the wind was counterbalanced by a strong sun in a largely clear sky.

The day went something like this :-

Morning I made a little tour out to Lake Merced using my Muni pass and spent some time looking at the shops in the Stonestown Galleria - no purchases, though! Then it was briefly back to base before heading out for lunch.

Lunchtime I met fellow FTer and fellow Scot Shuttle-Bored (a.k.a. Andrew), who was in San Francisco on holiday, for a most enjoyable Italian lunch. Here was yet another FlyerTalker with whom I found that I had an instant rapport. We chatted about all the usual frequent flyer matters and more, and time just flew past. We ended by strolling through Chinatown before going our separate ways.

Afternoon I rode the F Line out to the Civic Center and had a look around the buildings there. I then pressed on up into the Pacific Heights neighbourhood and enjoyed looking at some of the very impressive old houses in that part of the city.

Evening I was due to meet up again with fellow FTer EnhancedByCO (a.k.a. Austin), whom I had met in Sydney during my RTW trip and during a holiday for him. We met at the Mark Hopkins and, after a short wait due to the Friday night crowds, got into a very popular Italian restaurant on Nob Hill itself. We had a nice meal - a little bit different from last time! - and it was good to catch up on each other's news.
