This is: Portugal - California 2004
Today I was determined to really put my MUNI pass to work, using it to see parts of the city that - mostly - I had not previously visited. However I began by taking a Powell & Hyde cable car to the Wharf so that I could have breakfast in Denny's there. It was thoroughly enjoyable and very much cheaper than the breakfast in the Top of the Mark the previous day. Still, those views had been a real treat! Suitably fortified, I was ready for business. I rode a cable car back up to Nob Hill, then changed onto a No 1 'trackless trolley', followed by a No 29 bus to get to the Golden Gate Bridge viewing area where, in the rather bracing conditions, I took some photos and even ventured onto the bridge itself.
I then got another 29 to the Presidio district, getting slightly thrown on arrival due to an extensive construction site. However I soon found my way to the Marina, where I had a bite to eat, and then to the real highlight of the day, a walk around the Palace of Fine Arts and surrounding attractions. I include in this the neighbourhood itself, surely one of the most desirable in these parts. I could live there quite easily. Only one problem : I suspect I might have to win the lottery first
I then rode a No 28 bus back to the Golden Gate Bridge and on through Golden Gate Park, followed by an L tram and an 18 bus up the Pacific coast to the Palace of the Legion of Honor, in Lincoln Park. As well as the palace building itself, this is another good viewpoint of the Golden Gate. When I had seen all I wanted to see, I left the park on foot and caught a No 1 all the way back to Nob Hill. By now, it was really starting to feel very much cooler and I was glad to change into warmer clothing before heading out once more to North Beach for an Italian dinner.
