Howth - it rhymes with 'growth', not with 'mouth' - is situated on the Howth Head peninsula, about 18km east, and a little north, of Dublin city centre. At one time a free-standing fishing village, it has long since become an outer suburb of the Irish capital. Transport links are excellent, as Howth is a terminus on the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) commuter rail network.
Howth makes for an attractive and popular short excursion from Dublin, as we were to discover on what was probably the last Saturday of 2019 to be blessed with warm sunshine.
