Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

October 2018: Amsterdam

Immediately following my week in Bristol, Bruce and I set off to spend a week exploring some lesser known destinations in northern Germany. We decided during the planning phase that the ideal place to kick this off was actually the Dutch capital, Amsterdam. It was a short stay - less than a day and a half - and a familiar destination, yet we managed to see a part of the city centre that I had never been to before: what I tend to think of as the 'other side' of Centraal Station. More specifically, I mean the area around the body of water known as the IJ (pronounced like the personal pronoun 'I' in English). I couldn't believe how close it all was to the main railway station, yet this was new territory for me!
