February 2016: London

Bruce and I organised our first London weekend of 2016 for the middle of February. The UK capital is, of course, a destination that you can visit at any time of year and be confident of finding plenty of things to do.

Chinese New Year

The Year of the Monkey began on Monday 8 February 2016, with London's celebration conveniently taking place the following Sunday.

Recalling London 2012

London hosted the Summer Olympic Games of 2012. I made an unsuccessful attempt to view the site in October of that year, not realising that the area would be closed to the public for a lengthy period after the event. This visit provided a suitable opportunity to see some of the physical legacy of this memorable occasion, in the Stratford area of East London.

Orbit Tower

This is a highly distinctive sculpture / observation tower in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. With a formal name of the ArcelorMittal Orbit, it is the largest public artwork in the United Kingdom.
