March 2013: Hotel Elephant, Weimar

My base in Weimar was the Hotel Elephant, situated just a few steps from the neo-Gothic Town Hall on Marktplatz. Dating from 1696, this historic property was acquired by Starwood in 2000 and added to its Luxury Collection portfolio. The hotel was given an extensive refurbishment two years later, when many Art Deco features were added internally. I thought that the hotel lived up well to the Luxury Collection ideal of being full of individual character and not feeling like part of an international chain.

Staff were friendly and helpful throughout and the standard of food was exemplary, both in quality and presentation. While the bed didn't look particularly luxurious, it was perfectly comfortable and I had a great night's sleep.

Highly recommended!
