April 2012: Hilton, The Hague

This new Hilton - it was less than two years old at the time of my visit - proved to be an excellent base for my visit to The Hague. Although it's not particularly convenient for the railway station, I chose to walk in both directions. On the other hand, it certainly is convenient for all the main tourist sights. I was upgraded to a top-floor Executive room and granted access to the lounge, which featured an open-air terrace with attractive views of the city. The usual offerings were provided: breakfast, all-day drinks and snacks, evening canapés, and what was probably the longest 'happy hour' I have ever encountered!

I was delighted with my room, the main part of which was set well back from the door, with the bathroom and a small 'study' area in between. This had the dual effect of helping to insulate the main part of the room from any corridor noise and, for the business traveller, keeping work separate from relaxation.

The in-house restaurant, French-inspired Grand Café Pearl, proved to be an excellent choice for dinner. Unusually, it has its own website.
