April 2012: Hotel d'Europe, Avignon

My selected hotel in Avignon was the Hotel d'Europe, and what a good choice it proved to be! As an independent five-star property which is the former residence of the Marquis de Graveson, it oozed quality from the beginning. I was booked into standard room 205, but immediately upgraded to its deluxe neighbour simply because the better room was available and the receptionist said "we always try to do the best for our guests!" My new room had an inner door - always a delightful feature - leading to the bedroom, while a separate toilet and well-appointed bathroom were accessed from the little vestibule. The bedroom was beautifully furnished in classical style.

The hotel is also perfectly situated, just a short stroll from all the main sights. I couldn't help noticing at breakfast that all the other guests were either from North America or East Asia.
