August 2009 : London (II)

This weekend was built around my first London Proms concert - see panel on right. Favourable weather provided ideal conditions for yet another exploration of one of my favourite cities, including some instantly recognisable sights in the boroughs of Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea. Although there is no evidence of it here, I was also able to gain a different insight into the city on this visit, by making an effort to get away from the busy main roads and stroll through some of the very upmarket and relatively quiet residential streets in areas like Belgravia, Knightsbridge and Kensington.

The Proms

Hard on the heels of my first visit to the Royal Albert Hall in June 2009, came my first-ever visit to the London Proms at the same venue. Considering that I am a UK-based classical music fan who visits London on a regular basis, it seems odd that I'd never previously made a point of participating in such a well-known celebration of the world's most beautiful music.
