OU444 Split (SPU) - Vienna (VIE)
This one got off to a dodgy start due to the very late arrival of the aircraft from Zagreb. Nevertheless, I was looking forward to a flight that would bring a number of firsts for me :-
First experience of Croatia Airlines;
First time flying Business Class on a prop-job;
First time in a Business Class cabin located behind Economy.
Soon enough, we were boarding the ATR 42 via its rear door, which of course explains why J is at the back. There were only three of us in the back and it was interesting to watch several impeccably tailored businessmen make their way forward to Y. For my own part, I was quite clear that I was simply buying cheap Star Alliance miles and status. We left our stand at 1309 and were airborne just six minutes later. As we climbed out, excellent views were to be had of Split, its neighbouring islands and Trogir.
The little Business Class meal was a bit of a joke and frankly looked less nourishing than the filled rolls handed out in Economy. This was followed by coffee and lovely Croatian pepper cookies, which were much more substantial than the little ones handed out up front. (I had one of those as well!) The in-flight magazine was astonishing in both its thickness and quality. After checking that it was indeed marked as 'my personal copy', I decided that I would have to keep such a wonderful souvenir of both the flight and of Croatia itself.
As we made our descent into Schwechat, it was clear that the weather was foul. We touched down at 1430 and were parked five minutes later.
