Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

July 2006 : InterContinental Genève

I had only booked a standard room at this hotel and was slightly alarmed the day before my stay to see that my upgrade was showing as King Deluxe, i.e. not an executive room or a suite. On arrival, however, I was allocated a 12th floor corner suite, which was very acceptable   Actually, I would classify it as a junior suite, as the living area and bedroom area were both part of the same, large room.

The hotel is situated close to the UN buildings and was being used for some official functions while I was there. It's an easy bus ride into town, costing CHF3 each way. The return is very straightforward as the official stop name is 'Intercontinental'! Prior to the trip, I had read some criticisms of the rooms as being disappointing compared to the excellent decor in the lobby. I didn't experience this sense of disappointment at all and my only criticism was that the air conditioning system really struggled to cope with the high temperatures during my stay. Staff were friendly and helpful, room service was good and the minibar was fairly well stocked (but didn't necessarily remain so   ).
