Flight Log 5: NH2154

Sapporo New Chitose (CTS) - Tokyo Narita (NRT)

ABOVE: ANA Boeing 737-700 at Sapporo New Chitose

A very well organised boarding process got underway twenty minutes in advance of the scheduled departure time and I managed to swing a place in the priority line on the basis of my international connecting flights in Business Class. The aircraft had two rows of fixed Business Class seats in 2+2 formation, with Economy numbering starting at Row 5. Full bulkheads housing closets separated the two cabins. The Economy cabin featured modern, slimline seats covered in fabric rather than leather or an equivalent. I had a window seat on the starboard side and it seemed odd on a narrow-bodied aircraft for this to be designated 'K' rather than 'F'.

We managed to push back four minutes ahead of schedule and reached the runway within five minutes, taking off immediately behind what I assumed to be Bruce's Air China 737 to Beijing. I spent the first part of the flight reading, accepting a paper cup of apple juice during the beverage service. I remembered the captain predicting turbulence during the descent and giving the current temperature at Narita as 21C, but then I started dozing for a while.

The final approach did indeed feature both thick cloud and turbulence, with the landscapes below (when they were visible at all) being dull and grey. Touchdown was already seven minutes past the scheduled arrival time and it then took a further eleven minutes to complete the long taxi to a remote stand.
