A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

This is: Canada & Mexico 2011

All good things must come to an end

The alarm had been set for 0700, but there was no desperate rush as this allowed plenty of time for a stress-free departure. We ordered the usual room service breakfast, which meant poached eggs on toast for me. The luggage was collected at 0900 and we checked out and boarded our waiting taxi half an hour later. It was an easy run to the airport, where we were once again able to appreciate the attractive, modern and air-conditioned terminal. The aircraft eventually arrived at 1104, so it was inevitable that there was going to be a delay of some description.

Mexico City's Terminal 2 seemed to be in a better state on this occasion. The baggage arrived on the carousel as we approached - an excellent performance. We managed to get on the inter-terminal transit using e-ticket printouts. It seemed strange that there was someone checking boarding passes, given that it was a landside transfer. Perhaps it was to prevent the system being overrun by city-bound passengers seeking a cheaper taxi fare from Terminal 1, which is situated that much closer to the city centre. An easy walk through Terminal 1 took us past the point where we met up just over one week previously. We then checked into the thoroughly convenient airport Hilton, as an overnight stop for Bruce and somewhere for me to rest for a few hours between flights.

A very nice lunch followed in the Hilton's own restaurant. Back in the room, we went online and started investigations for some upcoming trips, including some newly-thought up ideas for 2012! Time passed very quickly.

I had a quick shower shortly before six and we said our farewells some thirty minutes later. As luck would have it, I had a very easy passage through check-in and Security and so ended up with plenty of time to spend in the United Red Carpet Club. It was a spacious facility, but not particularly memorable.
