Celle (pronounced TSEL-le) is a charming town of about 70,000 people, situated approximately 40km northeast of Hanover. It is considered to be the southern gateway to the Lüneburg Heath. (In this respect, I tended to think of it as almost a mirror image of the town of Lüneburg on the northern edge of the heath, which I visited from Hamburg in 2016.)
Celle has two principal visitor attractions: an imposing ducal palace and a picturesque old-town area containing over 400 timber-framed houses.
This was a day trip from Hanover.
