Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

Two of the best

I started the day with another nice breakfast in a somewhat quieter Executive Lounge, this being a little later than on the previous day. I spent what little time remained just relaxing in my suite and preparing for departure, eventually deciding to go at 1115. The taxi driver dropped me off at Terminal 2, but I immediately discovered that my flight was leaving from Terminal 3 and so took the Skytrain round to it. Not for the first time, I found myself marvelling at what a wonderfully spacious and civilised airport this was. Check-in was thoroughly painless at the dedicated Business Class area and then I soon found my way to the attractive and restful SilverKris Lounge of Singapore Airlines. When the time came, I took the long walk to Gate A18.

What an absolutely cracking flight! As expected, I arrived at Seoul's Incheon Airport - incidentally making my first-ever visit to South Korea - to find that I had missed the final run of the day for the hotel's own shuttle bus. Staff at the Information Desk advised me to catch a free airport shuttle to somewhere called E-Mart. I managed to just miss one and had to wait twenty minutes for the next. It was an easy walk to the Best Western Premier from what turned out to be the airport shuttle's first stop.

I checked in and was soon settling into the most basic accommodation of the trip. I didn't mind at all: I hadn't been prepared to pay twice the price for the nearby Hyatt, given that all I needed on this occasion was a bed to sleep in. Besides, I was drifting off to sleep with my head awash with fresh memories of the world's finest airport and leading airline. It doesn't get much better, I thought to myself, with just a soupcon of smugness.
