Da Nang (DAD) - Hanoi (HAN)
This flight looked very busy, the Business cabin in particular being completely full. I noticed that the A321 had the new-style overhead fittings, making it less than two years old by my reckoning and possibly even brand new. The chunky retro seats looked somewhat incongruous in this setting. Cold towels were distributed when the flow of boarding passengers subsided and glasses of apple juice were handed out following engine start.
We moved forward off our remote stand at 1435 and I was surprised to see newspapers being offered during what appeared at first to be a very short taxi to 17R. This little mystery was solved when we continued taxiing to the far end of the runway, where we performed a pirouette before accelerating and lifting off from what was now 35L at 1443.
Tablecloths appeared very quickly after the seat belt signs were switched off and these were followed by the in-flight snack trays. The offering was really rather sparse on this occasion, consisting of three bite-size open sandwiches and a curious little dessert formed of an unusually hard jelly enclosing a few golden raisins. I drank a Tiger beer and a coffee. Hot towels were given out when the trays had been collected.
We started our descent about 40 minutes into the flight and it was very hazy on our approach to Hanoi, due to a combination of weather and crop burning activity. Touchdown was at 1540 and we were parked on our remote stand within a mere three minutes - not bad for the main airport of a capital city!
