Steigenberger Airport Hotel, Frankfurt Airport
I chose this hotel, for the first time, because it seemed to offer much better value for money than the Sheraton, at the expense of being located a short shuttle bus ride away from the airport. Neither the new Hilton nor the Hilton Garden Inn had yet opened their doors. The shuttle turned out to be a full-size bus and the transfer was short and reasonably comfortable.
The hotel had a modern appearance and four-to-five star ambience. My Executive room struck me as being more like a junior suite, with clearly defined sitting and sleeping areas and a luxurious bathroom. It also had a quiet location. The major downside was that the air conditioning had been left switched off and, with the warm and humid conditions associated with the thunderstorms outside, the room was far too warm on arrival and took a long time to cool down.
The breakfast offering was attractive and the service attentive. I would consider this hotel again, despite the lack of points-earning potential in a major programme, although the opening of two Hilton properties will no doubt have an effect on future decisions.
