This is: USA Road Trip 2011
I got up in plenty of time to ensure a stress-free departure. Bruce had kindly offered to round off a weekend of wonderful hospitality by dropping me off at the airport prior to starting work. All too soon, our latest meet-up had come to an end and I found myself scanning the departure displays at San Diego International Airport, also known as Lindbergh Field. I dropped off my suitcase, having already checked in on-line, passed through Security and installed myself in United's Red Carpet Club. Around forty minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of my flight, I wandered downstairs to the gate area, not realising that it was quite so close by. Unfortunately my flight was delayed and then delayed again due to air traffic control restrictions at San Francisco, made necessary by low cloud. It was a relief to see that the second revised departure time of 1141 seemed to be going ahead, rather than being subject to yet another delay.

Rather than trying my luck with a dodgy inter-alliance bag transfer, I had arranged to pick my suitcase up at San Francisco and personally see it into the British Airways system. Accordingly I landed myself, approached the BA check-in desks as though I'd just rolled up in a taxi and was relieved to see that they were open and very much in business already. Security was quiet and I was soon back airside. As my flight was still a few hours away, I decided to buy some lunch at a cafe rather than survive on lounge offerings alone. That done, I found my way to the BA Lounge and settled into the First Class section. Surprisingly, it already had several occupants.
