This is: A Taste of the Deep South (2013)
Marriott Downtown, New York
This hotel was situated just a few steps away from Ground Zero. (Anyone not too familiar with New York should remember that in this city, 'Downtown' refers to the Financial district at the south-western tip of Manhattan.) Previously the New York Marriott Financial Center, it was severely damaged in the terrible events of 11 September 2001.
Neither of us had ever based ourselves in Downtown Manhattan before, but it turned out to be a perfectly reasonable strategy. We avoided the incessant noise and outrageously expensive hotel rates in Midtown, while plentiful transport links meant that we were never too far away from the action.
Apologies for the relative lack of photos: unfortunately, my attitude never fully recovered from events on the day of arrival. (See diary entry for Friday 24 May)
