This is: Spring Fever 2008
As there was no real need to be up and about early, I took the opportunity to have a lie-in. After a light breakfast, packing, checking out and storing my luggage, it was time to attend the final Do event : a visit to the house of Pommery. We had a private tour of the cellars, which was very enjoyable (not least due to the presence of numerous art works) and which ended in spectacular fashion when two members of the group were invited to open bottles of Champagne with a sabre! We then returned to ground level for a Champagne lunch and a group photo to round things off nicely.
And so the Tour de France Do 2008 was over, and had been another great success. Grateful thanks and congratulations are due to chrissxb, Richelieu and Falco Peregrinus for their excellent preparation and organisation. I made my way to Champagne-Ardenne TGV station and was surprised to see fellow-FTer Richelieu there. I was even more surprised to hear that he was travelling to Strasbourg and indeed would be with me as far as 2 tram stops before mine in that city! I enjoyed my first TGV ride, although with this being the end of the school holidays, it was too full of kids for my liking, even in First Class. The most memorable moments were actually standing on the platform at Champagne-Ardenne, when a couple of non-stop trains passed at unbelievable speed on the centre tracks. On arrival at Strasbourg, it was a relatively simple matter to travel by tram to the Hilton, which I was delighted to find was really rather nice.
