This is: Round The World 2006-07
Today's diary entry is short because today was effectively short, with morning and evening both given over to trying to shake off my stinker of a cold. Bruce called to see how I was doing, but there was absolutely no point in arranging to meet up prior to his departure for California. At one stage, I was thinking I might be confined to quarters for the whole day, but around lunchtime I decided that recovery and moderate exercise need not be entirely incompatible.
I took the Metro to Union Station for a look round and some lunch. It was thoroughly impressive! I thought it was a universal rule that major railway stations are sleazy to a greater or lesser extent, but this one - if you can believe it - turned out to be a haven of dignified elegance. Perhaps it is the exception that proves the rule, though I've never understood the logic of that particular concept. Having eaten a light lunch on the upper level of the central cafe, I made my way outdoors and towards Capitol Hill, passing the US Supreme Court and the Library of Congress, before turning right and along the side of the Capitol Building itself. I then made my way back along Pennsylvania Avenue.
When I got close to The Willard, the clear blue skies persuaded me to make a final loop round the White House. It had turned out to be a longer walk than expected!
