This is: Round The World 2006-07
I got up at 0615, aware of the need to be ready in good time for the car transfer to the airport that I had booked for 0845. A hugely enjoyable section of the trip was at an end and I was sad to be going, but then it's in the nature of a trip like this that it keeps moving on to another new phase. We said our farewells, hoping that plans for later in the year, made during and immediately after Part 3 of this trip, would come to pass. The drive to the airport passed uneventfully, once the initial congestion on the Escondido section of the freeway had been left behind. I checked in for my short flight to San Jose and waited in the departure lounge, there being no access to the Admiral's Club from the Commuter Terminal.

Picking up my latest rental car in San Jose required a bit of messing around, but soon enough I was heading south on Highway 101, in my Texas-registered Ford Taurus. I stopped for lunch at a branch of Denny's and then pressed on through the atrocious conditions, caused by heavy rain and spray. I had no trouble at all finding my latest hotel, as it's the most obvious building in the Seaside part of Monterey. As the appalling weather showed no signs of abating, I decided to stay put and simply enjoy a bit of rest and relaxation in my latest accommodation.
