Westward Ho!

No, not the Devon village with the unusual name - just a summary of the day's cruising programme, which would see us continuing on our westerly heading from Naples, slipping between the islands of Corsica and Sardinia on our course for Barcelona. In what appeared to be a theme of this cruise, there was no particular urgency to jump out of bed in the morning. In the fullness of time, we had breakfast at Horizon Court, ordering fresh omelettes as this seemed a far nicer option than making do with the buffet items. It was shockingly busy, though.

We spent part of the morning sitting outside near the Retreat Pool - a child-free zone - before attending the 11:30 trivia quiz in Club 6. Our performance was much better than earlier in the week, earning a respectable score of 15/20. This seemed all the more creditable when it was revealed that the winning score was 16/20. We celebrated our near-victory with a Bellini in Bellini's Bar - what could be more appropriate? - while entertaining ourselves by watching a 'cha-cha-cha' demonstration and tuition session happening down below in the Piazza.

With lunchtime already upon us, we moved upstairs for our second experience of the Ocean Terrace seafood bar, and once again this proved to be thoroughly enjoyable.

Later in the afternoon, we chilled in the room for a while, then packed our suitcases and put them out for collection. Afternoon turned into evening and we adjourned to Crooners for the final time for pre-dinner cocktails. In a break with previous practice on this cruise, we then returned to our cabin for a room-service dinner while watching the Tom Hanks movie Bridge of Spies. It reminded me of my own visit to the Glienicker Brücke in 2011.

For a day spent doing very little, time had passed remarkably quickly and it was clear that the cruise phase of the trip was rapidly drawing to a close.
