Penang (PEN) - Singapore (SIN)
I got a surprise in boarding this one, as I'd been expecting the plane to be exactly the same as the one that brought me out to Penang two days previously. This one had a different style of seats, with four rows of 2+3+2 and an extra pair of middle seats at the front. I settled into 16A again and enjoyed a pre-departure glass of nicely chilled Champagne. This flight wasn't very busy at all and, as soon as the doors were closed, my seatmate moved over to an empty trio of middle seats. There was a hot towels service prior to pushback at 1804. We taxied out to Runway 04 and were airborne by 1815. There were some good views as we climbed out.
The dinner service started from the front, the menu being as follows :-
DINNER |
|
|
Mixed seasonal salad | ||
Ayam Kelantan (Kelantan-style braised sliced chicken with spices and chillies, fried seasonal vegetables and coconut flavoured rice)
or | ||
Herb crusted lamb cutlet in rosemary sauce, ratatouille and potato leek gratin
Mango crepes with vanilla sauce
Coffee / tea |
I had the western option, and it was delicious. Again, however, I found it distinctly odd that there was no bread offering at all! I washed down the generous portions with a glass of Médoc red wine. The service was very attentive and I noticed that I was invariably addressed by name from memory (i.e. no glancing at a copy of the manifest before speaking!) Service concluded with a tea / coffee run, distribution of immigration forms, a second hot towels service and a bmi-style landing sweet (a Fox's mint).
Touchdown at Changi was at 1914 and eight minutes later, we were parked at our Terminal 2 stand.
Concluding thought : if only EDI-LHR flights could be like this!
