Having arrived at one of T5's satellite buildings, I took the transit to the main terminal. There was evidence of long queues at both Arrivals and International Connections, but Domestic Connections wasn't bad at all. My progress was however impeded by long lines at Security, even in the so-called Fast Track.

Having arrived as a First Class passenger, I was eligible for entry into the Concorde Room, British Airways' top lounge at Heathrow. While clearly inspired by Lufthansa's First Class Terminal at Frankfurt, this was more of a small step up from the more familiar gold cardholders' lounge at T5 (confusingly called the First lounge), serving better food and drink. And I must say, the food really was significantly better on this occasion. While I struggled to summon up any feelings of genuine hunger, I did have a mushroom soup and a duck breast starter. Both were beautifully presented and tasted really good.
About an hour prior to the scheduled departure time of my domestic shuttle flight, I decided that I'd had enough of sitting around and went for a stroll through the main terminal concourse.

The final parts of my journey, by tram, train and local bus, all went smoothly and I made it home by 5:15pm. With five weeks still to run until the winter solstice, it had been completely dark since 4:30 and, while it wasn't actually raining, it felt cold and everything was soaking wet. Only the Scots word dreich adequately captures such conditions, combining the notions of damp, cold, miserable and lacking proper levels of daylight (or in this case, any at all). At the end of another fabulous and unforgettable trip, made up of three highly contrasting segments, it was very much a case of welcome home to winter in Scotland.
But not for long! ...
