A weekend in Paris is almost invariably a good idea, as it's one of those cities that always has enough going on to keep the visitor interested. Bruce and I planned to make this particular visit a little more leisurely than most, with no fewer than four nights booked at the Marriott Rive Gauche. After arriving on Friday, Saturday would be dedicated to a day trip out to Versailles, and all of Sunday and Monday to seeing the sights of Paris itself before returning to the UK on Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, I was confined to quarters on the Monday after contracting what I assumed to be some form of food poisoning. Mercifully, it was a strictly 24-hour phenomenon, so that I was able to travel home on the Tuesday as planned, without worry or discomfort.
The following pictorial round-up includes the Luxembourg Gardens, St Sulpice Church, the Sunday market on Boulevard Raspail, Place du Trocadéro and the Eiffel Tower, the École Militaire, Les Invalides, and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés quarter of the 6th arrondissement.
I couldn't resist capturing this stunning night-time view with my phone:
