Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT) - Frankfurt (FRA)
Sitting in 2F and watching hordes of people coming on board, I quickly realised that it was going to be a busy flight. The aircraft was of course elderly, but as usual for Lufthansa it was spotlessly clean. When boarding was completed shortly after 1030, there were only three passengers in Business Class: in addition to myself, 1C and 2A were occupied. 1C had been booked into 2D, but sensibly decided to move over in order to make optimum use of the available space. With this relatively quiet airport unsurprisingly providing a marked contrast to the previous experience at Heathrow, doors were closed at 1035, we left the stand just three minutes after that and were airborne by 1047. The seat belt signs were quickly switched off as we crossed the coast and started to head south down the Kattegat.
The Business Class meals were served and, in line with the practice adopted to coincide with introduction of the Neue Europakabine, the tray contained what almost amounted to a tasting menu of attractive-looking small treats created by a member of Lufty's panel of so-called star chefs.
A passion for fine cuisine Welcome to Lufthansa Business Class. On Lufthansa European flights, renowned chefs have created our menus and snacks for the past two years. Today we serve the creations of Dirk Maus. Be prepared to savor the pleasant surprises of his culinary artistry. |
These are the creations awaiting
you on board today: Poultry liver filled with apple jelly and enrobed in trumpet mushrooms, with cranberry coffee chutney Sorrel tartlet on yellow turnip compote Avocado soup with diced cucumber, shrimps and sour cream Curd pancake filled with mascarpone on apricot ragout |
I chose some bread from the basket, asked for an apple juice and a coffee, and set about enjoying the selection of foods. We started to pass over, or close to, various Danish islands and experienced a short bumpy patch, although not sufficiently severe to warrant the seat belt signs. Both my drinks were topped up on return of the service cart from the Economy cabin. As ever, I found Lufthansa's coffee to be really tasty.
Northern Germany appeared to be basking in sunny, spring-like conditions, with just the odd scattering of fluffy white clouds. In contrast, the Frankfurt area was far more cloudy. We touched down at 1218 on the new landing-only runway, but for the first time as far as I was concerned, it was towards the east. That certainly reduced the time required for taxiing, and we managed to reach our allocated gate precisely on-schedule.
All in all, this was a thoroughly pleasant and well-executed short flight.
