Renaissance Riverside Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City
Bruce had access to excellent rates for this hotel and this was a factor in our decision to use it. We weren't entirely sure what to expect, but were certainly satisfied with what we found. We probably shouldn't have been in the least surprised: Marriott's own website claims that the property has been voted one of the top-ten five-star hotels in Vietnam. We had a perfectly acceptable standard twin room with river view on the 17th floor, with executive club access included. While the club lounge put on a nice spread at both breakfast and happy hour, our only real criticism of the hotel was that the lounge was invariably crowded. It was simply too small for the number of guests entitled to use it, a situation not helped by a rather inefficient seating layout.
The hotel is a relatively short walk from all the main tourist attractions in Saigon, which is just as well given the hot and sticky climate. The riverside location yields some interesting views, but is not necessarily a major advantage, as Saigon's river is not very tourist-friendly.
