This is: Vietnam 2010
This had always been planned as a lazy day and, setting the tone from outset, we went for breakfast a little later than usual, which brought an added bonus of avoiding the tour groups. We followed this up with a little walk around the grounds, by which time the appointed hour had arrived for Bruce's spa session. I repeated the walk, this time with my camera, and then settled into a relaxing session of my own, on the verandah with a book. It was a welcome respite after the previous day's bout of intensive sightseeing.
We had dinner back at the hotel restaurant, whose clientele consisted largely of tour groups. I returned to an Asian theme and enjoyed some soup followed by barbequed prawns and a beef dish, served with 'Ancient Town' fried rice. The meal was accompanied by a lantern display on the river, organised by the hotel. This consisted of people in a small boat quietly placing a large number of coloured floating lanterns in the water, which drifted past the restaurant terrace before being collected. It was such a simple idea, and yet beautifully effective. After dinner, we spent some time chatting to our waiter Binh, who was born in 1977 and whose name means 'peace'. He spoke English very well, but was keen to improve further.
Back in the room, we watched some TV before falling asleep at the end of a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing day.
