Round The World and other travels

A frequent flyer's collection of trip diaries

This is: Shanghaied in Tuscany!

They think it's all over ... it is now!

I had an excellent night's sleep, following my second full day in Mallorca and subsequent late-night return to the UK. For once, I was able to make use of the Hilton Gatwick's Executive Lounge for breakfast. (Although regularly granted access, I rarely get to take advantage of it as my schedule usually involves an early departure.) Returning to my room, I thought I might as well check out and spend the time in the BA F lounge, rather than in the hotel. I completed checkout at the Executive Lounge as a means of avoiding the usual queues in the lobby. Of course, when I passed through the lobby a few minutes later, there wasn't a single person waiting at the front desk on this occasion.

After negotiating the various hurdles of shuttle bus ride, bag drop and Security, I finally made it to my objective and passed a pleasant hour or so prior to heading to the gate for my final short hop up to Edinburgh.

Eventually reunited with my suitcase, now looking just a little battle-scarred, I picked up my car and drove home on the M9, barely able to believe the 18C temperature - unusually high for mid-October in Scotland!

And so ended another hugely successful trip - one of my more unusual creations! If you've read it through and got this far, then you'll already know that I had a fantastic time overall. My amazing kaleidoscope of travel memories just got even bigger!
