ABOVE and FAR RIGHT: New Senator Lounge at Frankfurt 'B' gates, Terminal 1 |
It's always a bit of a nuisance when an aircraft the size of a Boeing 747 pulls onto a remote stand, but we were so far ahead of schedule that it scarcely mattered. After a bus transfer to the main terminal and an easy passage through the formalities there, I made my way to the impressive new Senator Lounge at Terminal 1's 'B' gates, a vast improvement on its predecessor. When the time came, it was a short walk from there to Gate B24. |

So the strong winds that had carried me into Frankfurt well ahead of schedule had then operated against me on the final leg of the journey, and I was 30 minutes late arriving back into my home airport. Overall, however, it seemed that the gods had been smiling on me during this trip. Had I set out one day later, I would have encountered severe disruption caused by winter storms. And had I planned to arrive back one day earlier, I would have run into even worse storms that had been responsible for widespread structural damage within the last 24hrs. As it was, I had an easy drive home from the airport and arrived to find that the impact of the storms on me amounted to one dislodged roof tile.
What a wonderful trip it had been: 'short but perfectly formed' seemed like a suitable summary.
