Koh Samui (USM) - Bangkok (BKK)
The boarding process was much more orderly this
time, and I sensed that maybe the flight wouldn't be quite as full
as on the way out to Koh Samui. I settled into 11A (that's 1A to you
and me!) and watched a procession of Disney-esque 'trams' (as
they're called in Florida!) deliver the remaining passengers. Hot
towels (the cheap kind) were distributed and pre-departure drinks of
orange juice, water and ice tea were offered. I had some OJ while I
waited for the rather lengthy boarding process to reach completion.
I had a look at a local newspaper and noted that Bangkok had made
headline news by achieving a record low temperature of 9C!
Speculation that Thailand might receive its first ever snowfall was
being firmly dismissed, but the suggestion did spark some memories
of The King and I.
We eventually pushed back at 0941. The final tally
forward of the curtain was seven passengers, after one attempted
self-upgrader was sent packing.
We taxied down the runway, made a U-turn and began our take-off run,
gently lifting into the skies at 0949.
The snack offering seemed nicer on this sector,
being a slice of hot tuna quiche - very tasty! The drinks choice
this time was apple juice, orange juice, water and ice tea, followed
by coffee and tea. I managed an apple juice and two coffees. The
likely arrival temperature was reported as 21C, in sharp contrast to
that newspaper article. For some reason, the passenger in 11B moved
to 13J after eating - I did have a shower that morning, really! Not
that I was complaining, of course - regular readers may possibly
have noticed that I like my personal space.
We touched down at Suvarnabhumi at 1033, making it onto stand by 1040 to give an exactly on-time arrival. Overall, this seemed a much more pleasant flight than on the way out, the cabin being that much quieter through not being full of fairly obvious op-ups.
