Flight Log 5: AA854

New York Kennedy (JFK) - Boston (BOS)

My flight was the second sector of a through journey from Dallas Ft Worth. The aircraft, still carrying the familiar old livery, arrived at JFK a few minutes behind schedule, but they easily made up the lost time during the turnaround. I was in the bulkhead row immediately behind First Class, in the recently introduced Economy Extra section. Once the flight attendants started closing the overhead lockers, it became clear that 8B was destined to remain unoccupied - result!

The safety briefing was given at the gate and we pushed back precisely on schedule at 1600. The expected flying time was given as an almost ridiculously precise 39 minutes. It was a slow taxi out and, as is usual at JFK, there was a long queue for the runway. We eventually took off 28 minutes after leaving the gate.

I wasn't expecting any cabin service on such a short hop, but I had a diet coke when the drinks cart appeared. By the time it emerged from First Class, however, the seat belt signs were back on in preparation for arrival! We crossed the coast of Cape Cod Bay at a point that gave a good view of Provincetown to the right and the city of Boston, including Logan Airport, to the left. Touchdown came at 1709 and we managed to achieve an ahead-of-schedule arrival at the allocated gate.

Overall, a short but pleasant reintroduction to a once-familiar carrier.
